 Augmented 6ths

  •  The augmented 6th chord is simply a chord with an augmented 6th, it is built from the flat 6th and the sharp 4, for example Ab F# is the augmented 6 in C major
  • There are 3 types of augmented 6 chords, Italian 6th, French 6th and the German 6th.
  • The Italian 6th is is the regular augmented 6th with a major 3rd above the bass note.
  • The French 6th is the augmented 6th with the major 3rd and a major 2nd above the bass note.
  • The German 6th is the augmented 6th with the major 3rd and the perfect 5th above the bass note.
