Lesson 8
Strut Your Stuff!
The piece I will be analysing is called Prelude and Pantomime and I will be analysing the first section. The piece was written by Allen Vizzutti an American Trumpeter and Composer. The real purpose of the first movement of this piece is to show off the tonal quality of your instrument. It is filled with sequences and motifs that allow to really reach the tonal center of your horn. The mood of the piece is more peaceful and serene. The piece is in the key D minor. It is shown by the C# and Bb signifying that F major is the relative major of D minor but the C# makes the piece in D minor.
Three Concepts I will be talking about is the use of Sequences, Motifs and Embellishing tones.
- Sequences- All of the things I have circled are sequences used in the piece, In bar 1, 17,21,22,28-32,44-47.
- The use of Motifs I have highlighted in green In bar 36, one system starts on an D and the other starts on a A.
- Thirdly, the use of embellishing tones to make the piece sound more brighter and really stretch out the tone of the trumpeter. Like the Bb below the staff and these are underlined.
