6/4 chords and expanding the basic phrase (2nd inversion chords)
- The cadential 6/4 has a dominant function, although it has the tones of the tonic triad.
- In cadential 6/4, you can only double the bass notes because the 6/4 resolves to the V.
- The root position and the 1st inversion can be interchangeable but not the 2nd inversion chord.
- Cadential 6/4s are almost always preceded by a predominant harmony, rarely by the tonic harmony.
