Inversions, Figured bass and lead sheets
- If the root note is in the bass at the bottom and the figured bass is 5 3 then the chord is in root position.
- If the root note is at the the top and the figured bass is 6 3 then the chord is in 1st inversion.
- If the root note is in the middle of the triad and the figured bass is 6 4 then the chord is in 2nd inversion.
- To label a lead sheet Capital letter would be for major chords lower case letters for minor chords and place a "/" to represent the bass note. NOTE that if the bass note is not the root note you will place the bass note after the "/"
